The American Academy of Pediatrics published a study in June 2011 that concluded “the use of portable pools in residential settings poses a significant risk of submersion-related morbidity and mortality to children.”  According to the study, portable pools are especially dangerous to children less than 5-years-old.

The AAP recommends layers of protection such as “protective devices that are effective and affordable for portable pools, including isolation fencing, pool alarms, and safety covers” to keep children safe around portable pools.
